A tricycle was taking me to Ugwuoba, Oji River from Awka on a drop and when we got to the police checkpoint at the Wonderland area of Awka,
a police officer parked us and demanded that the keke rider should give him N100. A senior police officer got sight of it and howled at him saying,
“I have told you to stop demanding money from keke people. Don’t try that again in my presence. Some of these keke people are graduates with no jobs, but riding keke on hire purchase to be able to feed”. He ordered the rider to leave the scene.
I was marvelled by the words of the police officer. I told the rider to stop so I could appreciate the senior police officer. I brought out N5K in mint and gave him. He asked what it was for.
I told him that it was for that sublime comment he made. He was surprised. He was left wordless. He’s from Benue State.
I collected his phone number and we speak from time to time. See, there are still good public workers out there. It’s just that they are scarce.
I’m not sure there’s any day I’m travelling that I don’t drop a token to police on the road. Some of them are good. It’s just that government radicalized them with poor remuneration.
This man doesn’t know what he’s talking about
