Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen found the net for Galatasaray as they claimed a gritty 3-1 victory over Alanyaspor on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Fresh off spearheading his side’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16—a feat the club hasn’t achieved in 12 years—Osimhen returned to the starting lineup as Galatasaray welcomed Alanyaspor to Rams Park.

The Cimbom needed a win to solidify their position at the summit of the Süper Lig table, and they delivered.

The visitors looked dangerous early on, creating several promising chances, but they failed to capitalize.

The Turkish champions thought they had broken the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Sacha Boey put the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

Osimhen missed a golden opportunity in the 41st minute, firing high and wide after receiving a precise pass inside the box.

However, the Cimbom finally took the lead just before halftime. Lucas Torreira picked out Boey with a fine pass, and the defender calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner to give his side the advantage at the break.

The lead was short-lived, as Galatasaray were pegged back just four minutes into the second half by Benin striker Steve Mounié. Their parity didn’t last long, however; Osimhen showcased his playmaking vision by laying a perfect pass on a platter for Torreira, who finished with aplomb to restore the lead.

In the 81st minute, the Super Eagles star had another chance to put the game to bed in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he uncharacteristically fluffed his lines.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian marksman would not be denied. In the 89th minute, Osimhen finally got his goal to make it 3-1.

Victor Osimhen’s goal and assist were pivotal in securing the three points. The victory moves the reigning champions to 58 points after 24 matches, establishing a five-point lead over rivals Fenerbahçe, who face Antalyaspor on Monday.

Galatasaray will be hoping for a slip-up from their rivals as they look to maintain their momentum and defend their crown at the end of the campaign.
