WASHINGTON —
The U.S. Military stated Saturday it had killed a prime navy chief of Hurras al-Din, a Syrian department of Al-Qaida that introduced its dissolution in January.
The U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, which oversees American forces within the Center East, stated in an announcement that its forces on Feb. 23 “performed a precision airstrike in Northwest Syria, focusing on and killing Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay, the senior navy chief of the terrorist group Hurras al-Din.”
“As we’ve stated previously, we’ll proceed to relentlessly pursue these terrorists so as to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and associate personnel within the area,” stated Normal Michael Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM commander.
Since Hurras al-Din introduced in late January that it was dissolving itself, U.S. airstrikes have killed a number of of the group’s leaders, in keeping with CENTCOM.
On Feb. 22, it stated a “precision airstrike” had killed Wasim Tahsin Bayraqdar, a frontrunner of the group, which the U.S. classifies as a terrorist group.
American forces are in Syria as a part of a global coalition created in 2014 to battle the jihadis of the Islamic State group.
After a insurgent alliance led by radical Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham toppled President Bashar al-Assad and took energy in Damascus on Dec. 8, Hurras al-Din stated it now not wanted to exist.
The group, together with international jihadis, was based mostly in mountainous northwestern Syria.
