State of the nation: PFN declares a three-day prayer and fasting program

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria PFN, on Saturday, declared a three-day prayer and fasting program, as part of a conscious effort to seek God’s intervention towards ensuring peace, healing, stability, and a fruitful future for Nigeria.

Sylvanus Ukafia, the PFN national publicity secretary, stated in a statement, on Saturday in Abuja, that the fasting and prayer exercise would coincide with the Global Pentecost Day, anchored on the divine instruction contained in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on God’s people to humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from wicked ways so that He may heal the land.

The PFN said the prayer and fasting will be observed by Christians, irrespective of church denomination.

They announced that the decision to embark on the Spiritual exercise which will begin on Friday, May 22 and end on Sunday, May 24, 2026, was reached during a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the PFN on Friday, May 8, where concerns were expressed over the current state of the nation.

“At the meeting, the PFN noted with grave concern the growing insecurity across the country, persistent violence and bloodshed, attacks on communities and places of worship, economic hardship confronting millions of Nigerians, rising social tensions, and anxieties surrounding the nation’s political future and upcoming elections.

“As a body deeply committed to the spiritual health, unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria, the Fellowship believes that this is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation”

The PFN called on all churches, pastors, Christian leaders, workers, youths, women, and believers across the nation to participate actively and prayerfully in this solemn spiritual exercise.”
He disclosed that the first two days, Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23, are designated for fasting and prayer within homes, churches, and local assemblies across the country while on Sunday, May 24, 2026, which marks Global Pentecost Day, believers in every state are expected to gather at venues designated by PFN State Executives for a united national prayer assembly to conclude the exercise.

“Issues to pray about include: divine intervention for Nigeria, restoration of peace and security across the land, an end to bloodshed, violence, terrorism, and criminality.

Christians are also expected to pray for “economic recovery, relief for suffering citizens, wisdom, justice, and unity among leader, peaceful, credible, and violence-free elections, emergence of God-fearing and patriotic leaders, greater unity, revival, and spiritual awakening within the Church and the nation”

Ukafia said it is the belief of the PFN that Nigeria remains a nation of great destiny and immense possibilities, and that through sincere repentance, unity, righteousness, and prayer, God will grant healing, restoration, and national renewal.

The Fellowship also called on all Nigerians, especially the Christian community, to stand together at this crucial hour in faith, love, and patriotic commitment to the peace and future of our beloved country.

“We believe that as the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in the affairs of our nation and grant Nigeria peace, healing, stability, and a new season of hope,” stated Ukafia.

While it deeply appreciates the support, cooperation, and leadership of pastors and Christian leaders across the nation, the PFN urged all stakeholders to “mobilize their congregations and networks for full participation in the prayer and fasting sessions”
