Purple Elephant Ventures (PEV), which types itself because the “world’s first tourism-focused enterprise studio,” has raised $4.5 million in seed funding. The Nairobi-based enterprise studio will use the funding to scale its portfolio of startups and launch new ventures centered on addressing essentially the most urgent challenges in Africa’s tourism business.

The enterprise studio has launched 5 startups: Nomad Africa, a journey discovery platform and Kenya’s main journey writer and native company; Kijani Provides, a procurement tech firm specializing in eco-friendly provides for the hospitality business; Zafari, a reserving platform for African hospitality, streamlining operations for tourism operators; PowerTrip, a cleantech firm delivering energy-efficient home equipment to hospitality companies; JOIN Africa, a startup that helps safari guides, created in partnership with Paul English, co-founder of Kayak.
