The Complaint Response Unit of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed that officers captured in a widely circulated video harassing young men have been identified and will face disciplinary measures, as public outrage continues to mount over the incident.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the unit responded to the viral footage shared on X, which showed a group of police officers allegedly subjecting several young men to intimidation and harassment under the pretext of conducting a search operation.
The video, which has since sparked condemnation online, shows the officers engaging in what many users described as unprofessional and abusive conduct.
Reacting to the development, the Complaint Response Unit assured Nigerians that swift action would be taken against the officers involved.
“Dear members of the public, the policemen in the viral video have been identified and appropriate disciplinary actions awaits them accordingly,” the statement read.
The unit also used the opportunity to call for continued public support, emphasizing its commitment to addressing misconduct and enforcing accountability within the police system.
“We seek for your support and trust as we fight impunity to a standstill,” the statement added, accompanied by the hashtag #NoToImpunity.
The latest incident adds to a growing list of cases where security personnel have come under scrutiny for alleged rights violations, particularly involving young Nigerians.
