PointsBet opens Alberta registration for casino

PointsBet opened registration for consumers in Alberta, Canada, to register for its online casino and sportsbook ahead of the province’s formal launch.

The North American subsidiary of the Australian operator is now able to conduct marketing activities in Alberta.

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is, alongside Alberta’s ministry of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, leading the development of the region’s iGaming regulations.

Scott Vanderwel, chief executive officer of PointsBet Canada said:

Alberta’s move toward an open, competitive iGaming framework is a positive step for Canadian players, offering more choice and consumer protections in a safe and regulated environment.

Authorities in Alberta are looking to replicate the success of Ontario in the online gaming industry, with the province widely hailed for its regulatory structure.

iGaming and online betting revenue in Ontario continues to rise almost four years after the market opened in April 2022.

The latest statistics from iGaming Ontario show that revenue reached CA$425.4m in December – a new record – with wagers of $9.5bn.
