NiMet Forecasts 3 days of Sunshine and Cloudy Skies from Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of sunshine and cloudy conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday, offering Nigerians a clearer picture of what to expect as the new week unfolds.

In its latest weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said most parts of the country will experience generally stable weather, with sunshine broken by cloud cover, alongside pockets of rain and thunderstorms in some southern states.

According to NiMet, the northern region will see mostly sunny skies with periods of cloudiness throughout the three-day forecast.

The conditions are expected to remain largely dry, although haze is likely to affect visibility at certain times, especially as the week progresses. Residents in the North are advised to remain cautious, particularly during the afternoon and evening when dust particles may be suspended in the atmosphere.

For the central region, NiMet projected a similar pattern. From Monday through Wednesday, sunny and hazy conditions are expected to dominate.

The agency noted that dust haze may persist over parts of North-Central Nigeria, which could affect people with respiratory sensitivities. Commuters and outdoor workers in the region are advised to take protective measures, including limiting exposure where possible.

In the southern part of the country, the weather outlook shows more activity. NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds across the region, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall. Coastal and inland southern states are expected to feel the impact more strongly, particularly later in the day.

On Monday, states such as Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River may experience brief thunderstorms with light rain, especially towards the afternoon and evening hours. These showers are expected to be scattered and short-lived but could disrupt outdoor plans temporarily.

By Tuesday, the weather is expected to become slightly more dynamic. NiMet forecast sunny and hazy skies over the northern and central regions, while the southern region will continue to experience sunny conditions with patches of cloud.

During the morning hours, thunderstorms with light rain are likely over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. As the day advances, additional thunderstorms may develop over Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.

On Wednesday, the northern region is expected to start the day with sunny and hazy skies, while dust haze may become more noticeable in the afternoon and evening. The central region is forecast to remain sunny and hazy throughout the day.

In the South, cloudy skies with sunny intervals are expected in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

Beyond the forecast itself, NiMet issued several public safety advisories. The agency warned that dust particles currently in suspension over parts of the North-Central region could pose health risks. People living with asthma or other respiratory conditions were urged to take extra precautions, including limiting outdoor exposure and following medical advice.

Motorists were also advised to drive with caution during rainfall, as wet roads can reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents. In addition, NiMet encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency to support effective flight planning and safe operations.

The agency reminded residents across the country to stay informed by following regular weather updates, noting that conditions can change quickly, especially during periods of cloud build-up and thunderstorms.

Overall, NiMet’s three-day outlook points to mostly calm weather nationwide, with sunshine and cloud cover dominating the skies, and brief rainfall episodes expected mainly in the southern states. For many Nigerians, the forecast offers a chance to plan activities with fewer surprises, while staying alert to changing conditions where storms and haze are expected.
