Dec. 10 (UPI) — Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the sister-in-law of former presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney, died by suicide, according to a report from the medical examiner.

Romney, 64, was found dead by authorities at around 8:30 p.m. PST on Oct. 10, outside a parking garage in Santa Clarita, Calif.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner listed the manner of death as “suicide” in a statement Tuesday.

“A deputy medical examiner completed an examination of Ms. Romney on October 11, and the cause and manner of death were certified on December 9,” the release said.

The medical examiner determined the cause of death was blunt traumatic injuries that occurred after falling from the rooftop of the parking structure. She was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m. by responding paramedics.

Following her death, Mitt Romney asked for privacy in a statement that said: “Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all of our lives.”

She was married to Mitt Romney’s older brother, Scott Romney.
