Super Eagles of Nigeria kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign tonight with a crucial Group C opener against Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, as the Super Eagles begin another quest for continental glory in Morocco, Soccernet.ng reports.

Runners-up at the last AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria arrive under pressure and hungry for redemption after missing out on qualification for a second straight FIFA World Cup.

Twelve years on from their last AFCON triumph, the Super Eagles know that a fast start is non-negotiable if they are to set the tone for the tournament.

Head coach Éric Chelle hands responsibility to a squad packed with European-based talent, led by captain Wilfred Ndidi and spearheaded by Victor Osimhen, who sits just six goals shy of Nigeria’s all-time scoring record.

Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze provide creativity and pace as Nigeria look to impose themselves early.

Tanzania, meanwhile, enter the contest with little pressure but plenty of motivation. Still chasing a first-ever AFCON win, the Taifa Stars hope to frustrate their more fancied opponents and spring a surprise under new coach Miguel Gamondi.

Kick-off in Fès will reveal whether Nigeria can turn pedigree into performance and begin their AFCON 2025 journey with authority.
