As a Catholic, someone could have thought their sins were actually being forgiven when they weren’t. This is a pitiful and anti-Catholic (while also mocking cops) fair of far- fetching, and it’s horrendous that people would partake in tricking people into thinking that mining the Sacrament of Reconciliation is ok.
