Apple tests AI-powered tab grouping feature for Safari in iOS 27, macOS 27

Apple has started developing a new artificial intelligence-powered feature for Safari that can automatically organise browser tabs into groups in upcoming versions of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

The feature is currently being tested internally under a new ‘Organise Tabs’ option within Safari’s existing tab groups interface. The tool is expected to sort open tabs into categories based on browsing activity and topics, reducing the need for users to manage large numbers of tabs manually.

The feature functions similarly to AI-powered tab organisation already available in browsers such as Google Chrome, Opera, and Firefox. Safari users may be able to choose between manual grouping and automatic AI-driven organisation.

In test builds of iOS 27, users see a message that suggests that machine learning or Apple Intelligence technologies are working in the background, even though the feature has not yet been officially branded as part of Apple Intelligence.

Apple has continued to deepen the integration of AI capabilities into its software ecosystem following the rollout of Apple Intelligence features across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

The addition can improve productivity for users who regularly keep dozens of tabs open for work, research, shopping, or travel planning.

The Safari update is also expected to arrive alongside broader AI upgrades planned for Apple’s ecosystem, including a revamped Siri experience and deeper integration between Siri and Spotlight search.
