April 27 (UPI) — Former film mogul Harvey Weinstein was hospitalized Saturday for a battery of assessments days after New York’s highest court docket overturned his 2020 rape conviction, his lawyer stated.
The 72-year-old disgraced Hollywood producer was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan for testing after docs examined him at Rikers Island jail Friday, lawyer Arthur Aidala stated in a statement issued to media outlets.
“He is received numerous issues,” Aidala stated. “He is getting every kind of assessments. He is considerably of a practice wreck well being sensible.”
Aidala stated Weinstein’s illnesses are “bodily” and that mentally, he his “sharp as a tack” and has ” ft firmly planted on the bottom.”
The hospitalization got here after Weinstein was transferred from Mohawk Correctional Facility in upstate New York to a medical ward at Rikers in New York Metropolis on Friday. He was scheduled to look in court docket subsequent week for a retrial after the New York Courtroom of Appeals on Thursday overturned his 2020 rape conviction.
Weinstein was serving a 23-year jail sentence at Mohawk after he was discovered responsible of first-degree rape, a first-degree legal sexual act and a third-degree rape.
