Way of life Nigeria gathered that unknown Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Saturday unleashed terror in some communities in Agatu Native Authorities Space of Benue State, killing eight individuals.
Residents of the affected communities, equivalent to Ogwumogbo, Ikpele, and Ejima, had been reported to have fled their villages.
Agatu communities have constantly witnessed armed herders assaults up to now two weeks, with troops and civilians killed.
Within the first assault, which occurred on January 18, 2024, 5 individuals, together with three troops, had been ambushed and killed.
Power Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, Main Basic Sunday Igbinowanhia, who later confirmed the killing of three troops to journalists in Makurdi, stated that the troops engaged the armed herders in a gun duel that lasted for 3 hours and efficiently repelled the armed herders who might need misplaced many individuals in there fold.
He stated, “Three deceased comprised of two troopers and one Nigeria Safety and Civil Defence Corps personnel had been recorded, and two different troopers had been wounded and receiving remedy on the Nigerian Air Power hospital in Makurdi.”
