The Police Speedy Response Squad (RRS) says it arrested two suspects for vandalising telecommunication, electrical energy and generator cables at completely different areas in Lagos.

The suspects, recognized as Akpan Fortune, 28, and Stanley Umebuane, 24, have been respectively arrested at Ikeja and Ikoyi on Sunday.

In an announcement issued on Monday, Lagos police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated the suspects have been arrested and their instruments used to commit the offence seized.

He added that Mr Akpan was arrested on Sunday morning whereas he was vandalising telecommunication and generator cables at Acme Crescent in Ikeja.

The spokesman stated Mr Stanley was caught on the act when he was digging up “electrical energy cables with a shovel” in Ikoyi.

“Fortune was arrested within the morning on Acme Crescent, Agidingbi, Ikeja after accessing and vandalising telecommunication and generator cables in a substation within the space.

“Umebuane on his half was caught within the act by an RRS crew on routine patrol on Sunday night time at Gerrard Highway, Ikoyi, digging up electrical energy cables with a shovel.

“Recovered from them have been a shovel and various kinds of vandalised cables,” Mr Hundeyin stated.

He added that Olayinka Egbeyemi, commander of the RRS, transferred the suspects to the State Legal Investigation Division, Panti, for “additional investigation and prosecution”.
