Zimbabwe’s popular cycling couple, Thando Tshuma and Vusi Mkandhla, are now officially married.

However their wedding announcement came with a sharp message for journalists based in Bulawayo.

The cycling couple, who became social media sensations during their cycling journey across Africa, revealed in a live video from Angola that they are now married.

“We stayed one week in Francistown. Something happened in that week. We thought we should do something while we were in Botswana, and we did it…We are officially married,” they said.

Thando and Vusi explained that their families travelled from Zimbabwe to Botswana for lobola negotiations, which were successfully completed.

Vusi said they decided to make this announcement in Angola on Thando’s birthday. The cyclists revealed that they are still going to have a big celebration later.

While celebrating their new marital status, the couple didn’t hold back their frustration with journalists from Bulawayo.

“There are people who are going to get the invitation… If you are a journalist, make sure you are not invited,” Thando said during the live video.

“If you are a journalist from Bulawayo, don’t contact us, don’t come to our wedding. We don’t need you…”

Vusi echoed her sentiments, saying many Bulawayo journalists only reached out to them after their story had gone viral.

He said when they wanted the local journalists the most, they ignored them.

“The thing with journalists is they only want something they can sell,” Vusi said.

“All the interviews we have done, not even one journalist asked an insightful question.” He said they kept asking about the couple’s challenges and preparations.

Despite their criticism, the cycling couple clarified that they still love the people of Bulawayo, just not the journalists.

Thando turns 31 — and plans more adventures before motherhood

Speaking during the same live session, Thando revealed that she is now 31. She said she is not ready for motherhood yet.

“I cannot be pregnant now because I still want to travel first,” she said.

The cycling couple continues their African adventure, now as husband and wife, sharing their journey and relationship milestones with their growing online audience.
