Four-time Latvian Cup winners FL Jelgava are set to finalise a three-year deal for Ondo-state scouted defender Samuel Asogbon, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 19-year-old centre-back caught the eye of several European clubs after the Viareggio Cup outing, but the Dino SC defender opted to sign for Latvian side FL Jelgava.

However, the young defender has yet to feature or be unveiled by the European club. Dino’s Sporting Chairman, Samuel Columbus, has revealed the cause of the delay.

Why has Asogbon not joined FL Jelgava?

An agreement was reached between the two clubs in August 2025 for the highly rated youngster, with a three-year deal already in place.

However, visa problems have prevented the Nigerian from joining his new teammates. The situation is expected to be rectified next month, and the player will officially become a Jelgava player.

“Samuel was scouted at a very young age during one of my routine nationwide programmes held in Okitipupa, Ondo State,” Columbus told Footy-Africa.

“I saw him early, took him in, nurtured, developed and profiled him. We are delighted with his progress and he is one of the players to watch for the future.”

Away from his defensive abilities, Asogbon has also been a rock for Dino SC so far. The Academy, located in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, has been captained by the 19-year-old for the past three years.

Asogbon has led the academy to winning several grassroots laurels, and he’s looking to follow in the footsteps of Wolves forward, Tolu Arokodare, who began his European career in Latvia before spells in Germany, France and Belgium, and now plays in England.

Dino SC was founded in 2017 as a result of the owner’s desire to remain relevant and be a contributor to the development of youth football in Nigeria and Africa.
