WEATHER: Thunderstorms on the horizon in 3 provinces

Grab your umbrellas! Thunderstorms are set to roll through KwaZulu-Natal, North West, and Free State on Friday, 20 February.

KWAZULU-NATAL

A Yellow Level 2 Warning has been issued for the south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal. Severe thunderstorms are expected in this region, bringing heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning, and hail. For the rest of the province, the weather will be fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.

DURBAN

Durban will experience partly cloudy conditions with isolated evening thundershowers. The minimum temperature is expected to be 24 °C, while the maximum could reach 29 °C. The UVB Sunburn Index is forecast to be very high, so sun protection is advised.

NORTH WEST

The North West province will enjoy fine and warm to hot weather in the morning. By the afternoon, it will become partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thundershowers possible.

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng will start the day fine, but clouds will increase in the afternoon. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected later in the day. Temperatures are expected to range from 18 °C in the morning to 31°C at the hottest point of the day.

FREE STATE

The Free State will have fine and warm to hot weather in the morning. In the afternoon, the skies will become partly cloudy, and isolated showers and thundershowers are possible.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein will have a fine start to the day, but clouds will build in the afternoon. There may be isolated thundershowers in the late afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach a minimum of 17 °C and a maximum of 33°C.
