Some intense weather is expected in parts of the country on Tuesday, 24 February. According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), residents in KwaZulu-Natal, North West, and the Free State should brace for heavy rain, thunderstorms and potentially disruptive conditions.

KWAZULU-NATAL

The South African Weather Service has issued two weather warnings for KwaZulu-Natal. The extreme southern parts of the province have been placed under a yellow level 4 warning, with severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours expected. These storms could result in localised flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

The rest of the province is under a yellow level 2 warning for thunderstorms, with bursts of rain, lightning and gusty winds likely to make for an unsettled day.

DURBAN

In Durban, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, along with scattered showers and thundershowers throughout the day. Temperatures will range from a warm minimum of 23°C to a humid high of 28°C.

NORTH WEST

The North West province is also under a yellow level 2 warning. Torrential rain could lead to localised flooding of susceptible roads, settlements, low-lying areas and bridges. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone zones.

MAHIKENG

In Mahikeng, cloudy conditions with scattered showers are predicted. Residents can expect a cool morning low of 18°C, climbing to a daytime high of 24°C.

FREE STATE

More intense weather is expected over much of the Free State. A yellow level 2 warning has been issued for the province, excluding the extreme north-eastern parts. Heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to slippery roads and difficult driving conditions, particularly during peak travel times.

BLOEMFONTEIN

In Bloemfontein, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with isolated showers possible later in the day. Temperatures will dip to a chilly 16°C in the early morning before rising to a mild high of 24°C.
