The Oodua Progressives Care Provoke (OPCI) yesterday vowed to withstand any try and disrupt the inauguration of the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Might 29, 2023.

The group warned these it described as components of destruction parading themselves as Yoruba leaders, both people or associations, calling for the cancellation of the election to stop or be handled.

Addressing a press convention in Ilorin, Kwara State, the President of OPCI, Chief Maruf Olanrewaju, warned that the group wouldn’t enable a repeat of the 1993 incident when the election of one other Yoruba man, the late Chief Mashood Abiola, was annulled.

Olanrewaju stated, “Tinubu received the election with over eight million votes, declared winner and introduced with the certificates of return by INEC.

“However some opposition political events raised alarm and so they had been suggested to hunt redress by the authorized means.

“Nevertheless, it got here to us as a shock the motion of some hooligans, criminals, enemies of democracy and of our expensive nation calling for an interim authorities as an alternative of correct handing over to the president-elect on Might 29.

“We imagine within the efficacy of regulation, democracy and the unity of Nigeria and shall not fold our arms and be watching these components of destruction to truncate our democracy.

“If it was achieved efficiently in the course of the June 12, election in 1993, we won’t enable it to repeat itself this time round. We are going to do every part attainable to defend our democracy and the mandate given to Tinubu.”
