President Donald Trump holds a press conference with Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, August 15.

Trump is meeting with the Russian president in hopes of brokering a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine to stop their years-long war.

“I’m not here to negotiate for Ukraine. I’m here to get them at a table,” the president told reporters aboard Air Force One on the flight to Alaska earlier Friday. “I’d like to focus on our country, but I’m doing this to save a lot of lives.”
