A University of Cape Town student has dropped a viral remix of an EFF MP chanting “voetsek” to a group of supporters. The clip comes after leader Julius Malema was sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment for his reckless firearm conviction.

EFF’S NALEDI CHIRWA’S VOETSEK CLIP GOES IRAL

After being sentenced at the Kugompo City Magistrate’s Court and granted bail pending leave to appeal his sentence, Julius Malema addressed a group of supporters.

The EFF leader revealed how his legal counsel had managed to keep him out of jail, despite his sentence.

Malema then called out several guest speakers, including MP Naledi Chirwa, onto the stage, who led the crowd in song.

In a clip posted on social media, Naledi started off chanting “Amandla” and “Viva EFF”.

She then belted out: “Voetsek Donald Trump, voetsek!  Voetsek DA, voetsek! Voetsek AfriForum, voetsek” Voetsek, voetsek, voetsek!”.

The clip quickly became a meme on social media.

INTRODUCING THE REMIX

Meanwhile, a University of Cape Town student has released a remix of the EFF chant.

Jordy Dirks – who is studying political science – posted the music release on his YouTube account.

Dirks, a singer and songwriter, revealed that he had created the “satirical, high-energy track that blends South African politics, internet culture, and bass-heavy chaos”

He added, “Inspired by moments associated with the Economic Freedom Fighters, this remix is meant as commentary and remix culture, not endorsement. Music as remix. Politics as noise. Interpret how you want”.
