May 20 (UPI) — Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., announced Wednesday that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

“While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan,” she said in an Instagram post.

“I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids and those closest to me.”

She also expressed gratitude for her doctors who performed “a procedure” on her earlier this week.

“Thank you for your kindness and support,” she continued, “it truly means more than I can express.”

Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr.’s sister, was among well-wishers commenting on the post.

“Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery,” Ivanka Trump wrote.

“Love you mama.”

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer, which mainly occurs in middle-aged and older women, is the most common form of the disease in women, second only to skin cancer, and accounts for about 30% of all new female cancer diagnoses each year.

The average risk of a U.S. woman developing breast cancer during her life is about 13%, the nonprofit organization said, adding that there are currently more than 4 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

Vanessa Trump, 48, and Donald Trump Jr., President Donald Trump’s eldest son, were married from 2005 to 2018. They have five children together.

The former model is in a years-long relationship with golfer Tiger Woods.
