US to deploy extra troops to southern border

The US will deploy practically 3,000 extra troops to its border with Mexico, bringing the entire variety of active-duty personnel there to round 9,000, U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, stated Saturday.

Border safety is a key precedence for President Donald Trump, who declared a nationwide emergency on the U.S. frontier with Mexico on his first day in workplace.

“Roughly 2,400 troopers from components of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Fight Staff (SBCT), 4th Infantry Division” shall be despatched to the border, together with “roughly 500 troopers from the third Fight Aviation Brigade,” NORTHCOM stated in a press release.

Troops from the aviation unit will “help within the motion of personnel, tools, and provides; and supply aerial medical evacuation capabilities,” NORTHCOM stated.

“These deployments will deliver extra agility and functionality to additional efforts to cease the movement of unlawful migrancy and medicines on the southern border,” its commander, Common Gregory Guillot, stated.

The Trump administration has launched what it solid as a significant effort to fight unlawful migration that has included immigration raids, arrests and deportations, together with by way of the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
