Two Dead After Car Slams Into Stationary Truck Along Chinhoyi-Chegutu Highway

Two people have been killed, and two other individuals are left fighting to survive their injuries after a car slammed into a truck along the Chinhoyi-Chegutu highway. The accident unfolded when a Toyota Wish, carrying three occupants, violently collided with the rear of a stationary Howo tipper truck.

The force of the impact was catastrophic, occurring at the 71-kilometre marker along the well-travelled route connecting Chinhoyi and Chegutu. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered a harrowing sight. The Zimbabwe Republic Police provided official confirmation of the grim event.

In a formal statement, the ZRP outlined the basic facts of the case, noting,

“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 02/10/25 at the 71 kilometre peg along Chinhoyi-Chegutu road.”

The statement provided further chilling details, revealing the human cost of the collision. It read,

“Two people were killed while two others were injured when a Toyota Wish vehicle with three passengers on board rammed onto the back of a stationary Howo tipper truck.”

The two individuals who perished were declared dead at the scene, their lives tragically cut short in an instant. The survivors, whose conditions were described as serious, were swiftly transported by ambulance to Chegutu Hospital to receive emergency medical treatment.

Ongoing Investigations and a Familiar Danger

In the aftermath of the crash, the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the mortuary at Chegutu Hospital, where post-mortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted. Meanwhile, the injured victims remain under close medical supervision as hospital staff work to stabilise them. This latest incident has cast a glaring spotlight on the perilous nature of this particular stretch of tarmac, which has gained a grim reputation as a high-risk corridor.

The Chinhoyi-Chegutu road is sadly no stranger to such devastating incidents, having been the site of numerous serious accidents in recent years.

As police investigators continue their work to determine the exact sequence of events that led to Thursday’s tragedy, the force has reiterated its critical safety message to all who use the nation’s roads. The ZRP sternly warned,

“Drivers are urged to be alert on the road and avoid travelling at unsafe speeds which reduce reaction time in emergencies.”

This plea serves as a sombre reminder of the fine line between a safe journey and a life-altering catastrophe on Zimbabwe’s highways.
