The South African comedian made the quip during a recent show.

TREVOR NOAH JOKES ABOUT NOT PAYING HIS TV LICENCE

On his X profile, Trevor Noah posted a clip about a unique South African experience – being inundated with calls to pay his TV licence!

The Soweto-born star joked that he had been inundated with messages about an outstanding bill, even though he no longer permanently lives in the country.

He even claimed a debt collector had warned that he could “attach his assets” due to non-payment.

Watch the hilarious clip below…

WHEN CAN YOU STOP PAYING?

Although Trevor Noah is currently living abroad, he still returns to South Africa to visit his home, and is obligated to pay his SABC TV licence unless he formally cancels it.

According to the Broadcasting Act, No 4 of 1999, any person or entity that has in its possession and/or uses a TV set must pay a TV licence, irrespective of whether the TV set is used.

The current fee is R265 per annum. Overdue or unpaid fees are handed to SABC’s debt collectors.

TV licences may only be cancelled when individuals have sold or otherwise disposed of their television set. However, the SABC must be notified in writing – via an affidavit – of the changed circumstances.
