President Bola Tinubu has conveyed Nigeria’s solidarity with Gulf countries affected by attacks in the US-Israel war with Iran, describing the crisis as a threat to global peace that demands collective resolve.

Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday at the State House in Abuja while receiving letters of credence from seven ambassadors and two high commissioners, including those of Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He specifically commended the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan for their resilience and restraint amid the conflict. “The world needs tranquillity, peace and love. We share that solidarity with all of you in that region,” he said.

The other envoys who presented their credentials were representatives of Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina, and Congo.

Nigeria’s broader diplomatic message

Beyond the solidarity message, Tinubu used the occasion to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to deeper bilateral ties with all nine countries, urging their envoys to explore investment opportunities across infrastructure, economic development, and diaspora engagement. He described Nigeria as a globally competitive hub, positioning itself for investment and sustainable growth.

On regional priorities, the president reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to ECOWAS, particularly in defending constitutional order and stabilising the Sahel, while calling for collective action on climate change, energy transition, terrorism, and inequities in the global financial system. “Nigeria stands ready to work with your governments bilaterally and in multilateral forums to advocate for a fairer, more secure world order,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the envoys, Qatar’s ambassador, Yousef Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed Al-Hail, thanked the president and pledged to strengthen relations between their respective countries and Nigeria.
