Thunderstorms continue over Gauteng

Gauteng residents should remain alert, as isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected to continue until the weekend. Forecasts indicate that the province remains within a broader system affecting much of the country’s central and eastern regions.

While not all areas will experience rainfall simultaneously, sudden downpours may develop, particularly in the afternoons.

Forecaster Phemelo Zonke said authorities will “continue to monitor and update the public on severe thunderstorms and rainfall warnings,” adding that conditions could change rapidly as moisture spreads inland.

Impact on roads and daily travel in Gauteng

Wet road surfaces and reduced visibility continue to be a concern for motorists. Traffic disruptions may occur during periods of heavy rain, especially on major routes during peak travel hours. Emergency services have urged drivers to plan and adjust driving behaviour when storms develop.

“Drivers are reminded to take caution on wet roads and maintain safe distances during heavy rain and thunderstorms,” Zonke said.

She added that visibility may drop sharply during intense downpours, increasing accident risks.

Temperatures and Weekend Outlook

Temperatures in Gauteng will remain warm, with daytime highs climbing into the upper 20s and low 30s, while overnight lows range between mild and cool conditions. The weekend outlook indicates a continued chance of isolated showers and thundershowers, with brief periods of sunshine interspersed between stormy intervals.

As weather patterns remain unstable, residents are encouraged to stay informed through official updates and take precautions when storms approach.
