The Southern Kingdom (Judah) labels the Northern Kingdom (Israel / Ephraim) as the wild branches because they don’t believe that gentiles (other nations) are grafted in. The gentiles being grafted in are the Israelites who lost their way and simulated into the nations, making them gentiles. They also believe that a broken branch (Northern Kingdom) cannot be grafted in if it was not part of the olive tree. It is only the broken branches that can be grafted in. Gentiles were never part of the olive tree. This is their understanding. This is also tied to the 2 sticks prophecy were Judah (Southern Kingdom) and Israel / Ephraim (Northern Kingdom) are joined together same as the grafting in together.
