Taiwo Awoniyi: Dethroned DFB Pokal kings plot swoop for out-of-favour Nottingham Forest star

Taiwo Awoniyi will likely spend a lot of time on the bench if he stays at Nottingham Forest this season…

German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen are interested in Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi and will push to sign him before the close of the summer transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi’s time at Nottingham Forest seems to be nearing an end, as the club have signed two top strikers this summer - Igor Jesus and Arnaud Kalimuendo - to add to Australian Chris Wood.

Injuries have also dealt him a bad hand, as he has spent a lot of time on the treatment, and that has seen his impact at the club reduced significantly.

As such, Awoniyi has been relegated to playing just a peripheral role at the City Ground. He didn’t even make the matchday squad in the club’s last two games against Crystal Palace and West Ham.

Due to his situation, there has been a growing belief that the Super Eagles star will start exploring other options outside of Forest.

However, he hasn’t been linked with any club in the Premier League, so he might have to start looking elsewhere.

Werder Bremen Want Taiwo Awoniyi

According to Transfer feed, Taiwo Awoniyi could make a sharp return to the Bundesliga, with Weder Bremen interested in signing him.

The 2009 DFB Pokal champions want to get a striker in before the transfer deadline, and they believe Awoniyi could be their man, especially as he has Bundesliga experience.

Werder Bremen will likely pursue a loan deal with an option to buy. It should be a quick deal for Nottingham Forest, who are looking to offload some player this summer.
