South Korea, U.S. to carry ‘unprecedented’ live-fire workout routines amid North Korea menace

SEOUL, March 22 (UPI) — The militaries of South Korea and the US will maintain their largest-ever live-fire train in June to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of their alliance, Seoul’s Protection Ministry mentioned Wednesday.

The joint drill will contain a “massive variety of high-tech forces, akin to manned and unmanned complicated techniques, demonstrating the alliance’s formidable firepower and mobility on an unprecedented scale,” the ministry mentioned in a press launch despatched to reporters.

“Within the face of extreme safety conditions akin to North Korea‘s advancing nuclear and missile threats, South Korea and the US are serving to to understand ‘peace by means of energy’ by means of motion primarily based on strategic deterrence capabilities,” the assertion mentioned.

The allies are scheduled to wrap up their 11-day Freedom Shield joint army train on Thursday, which Pyongyang has angrily denounced as preparation for an invasion.

North Korea has carried out a number of missile launches in the course of the train, together with a Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile final week.

Over the weekend, the secretive regime held a drill to prepare for a nuclear counterattack, in accordance with state-run media.

North Korean chief Kim Jong Un mentioned Monday that the U.S.-South Korea joint train “urgently requires the DPRK to bolster up its nuclear conflict deterrence exponentially.”

The Democratic Individuals’s Republic of Korea is the official title of North Korea.

Along with the live-fire demonstration, South Korea is planning a collection of occasions and boards to mark the seventieth anniversary of the alliance and the armistice that halted the 1950-1953 Korean Battle, the Protection Ministry mentioned Wednesday.

The ministry is trying to maintain its annual Armed Forces Day ceremony in September with the participation of U.S. Forces Korea with a purpose to “exhibit overwhelming deterrence towards North Korea.”

Seoul and Washington are additionally working to launch a future protection imaginative and prescient for the bilateral alliance at their annual Safety Consultative Assembly in October, the ministry mentioned.

The high-profile firepower drill would be the first the allies have held since April 2017.
