IN SHORT: A screenshot circulating on-line claims a prime official from the African Nationwide Congress has apologised for feedback made across the announcement of most well-liked candidates for the social gathering’s nationwide govt committee. However it’s faux.

Screenshots of what appears to be an article from South African newspaper City Press have been doing the rounds on Facebook.

The headline within the screenshots reads: “Kgalema apologises on ANC nomination rhetoric – admits privately about stress from Ramaphosa.”

Kgalema Motlanthe is the electoral committee chairperson of the African National Congress, or ANC, South Africa’s ruling political social gathering. He briefly served as president of the nation from September 2008 to Might 2009 and was deputy president below Jacob Zuma from 2009 to 2014.

In a 26 September Facebook post, Metropolis Press stamped the screenshot “FAKE”.

“Faux information,” the caption of the submit reads. “Metropolis Press has been alerted to a faux poster making the rounds on social media about former president Kgalema Motlanthe.”

It mentioned the newspaper “distances itself from the poster” and hadn’t printed such a narrative.

Metropolis Press additionally linked to the original article which seems to have been digitally manipulated. It was headlined “Kgalema warns provinces on ANC nominations”.

We discovered no proof Motlanthe has apologised for this warning.
