Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has urged his players to show “maturity” as they embark on their first-ever Women’s Champions League campaign.

United, who reached the main stage after overcoming Brann in qualifying, kick off their European journey at home to Valerenga on Wednesday.

Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw against defending Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, United will be eager to continue their positive start.

The Red Devils head into the clash unbeaten so far this season, and Skinner believes his side are ready for the challenge.

“We’ve spoken about this as a team — we want to compete at the highest level,” Skinner told reporters.

“We believe in ourselves; you’ve seen that in our performances this year so far.

Skinner, who guided United to Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history, hopes his side can carry their domestic form onto the European stage.

“It’s an exciting time, but I don’t want that excitement to become naivety. We’ve talked about maturity — that’s the key. If we can show maturity and play the way we have been, I don’t think many teams will want to face us.”
