Scandic Hotels is continuing its growth in Germany with the signing of a new hotel project in Hamburg, one of Europe’s major logistics and tourism hubs. The planned hotel will feature approximately 430 rooms and offer a variety of amenities, including a rooftop bar, a lounge, a fitness center, and a terrace with panoramic views of the city.

Set to open in 2030, the hotel will be located in a high-visibility area near Ankelmannplatz square and Berliner Tor station, a central transportation hub.

Hamburg’s strategic location and economic significance as Germany’s second-largest city, and the country’s largest port, make it a key destination for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel’s location will provide convenient access to the city’s major transport routes and contribute to the ongoing urban development in the area, which is expected to become a focal point in the district.

Scandic has entered a long-term lease agreement with landlord PEG and Reiss+Co, who co-own the land for the hotel’s construction.

“This investment is an important step in our long-term strategy to establish attractive hotel destinations in Germany. We’re not just building a new hotel, but creating a place where people can meet, get inspired and feel at home, right in the heart of Hamburg”, – Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.

The hotel’s design will include a spacious restaurant and bar on the ground floor, contributing to a lively atmosphere, while the building’s Nordic-inspired architecture and modern facade will provide a distinctive visual presence. Additionally, the 10th floor will feature a fitness center and a sky bar, offering guests sweeping views of the city.

“We’re happy to be entering into a long-term cooperation with PEG and Reiss+Co. This investment is also an important step that will strengthen our presence in Hamburg – a leading European hub for science, research and education with many renowned universities and institutions” –  Jesper Engman, Senior Vice President Portfolio Development.

This new hotel is part of Scandic’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Germany, a country with strong economic prospects, especially in cities like Hamburg, which ranks among the top 10 European cities by GDP.

Furthermore, the last years Scandic Hotels has boosted the rythme of expansion in Germany, with the opening or announcement of several new properties opening across key cities.

More particularly, the company has recently announced the addition of new hotels in Berlin, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, and Frankfurt, marking a strategic effort to strengthen its foothold in major economic regions. In Berlin, Scandic has entered a lease agreement for a 214-room hotel in the city’s western district.

The Stuttgart hotel is part of Scandic’s focus on business hubs, aligning with the city’s growing status as a business destination. Additionally, Scandic’s recent openings in Frankfurt and Munich contribute to the company’s broader growth strategy, bringing its total room count in Germany to over 1,600.

These new openings reflect Scandic’s commitment to expanding its network in Germany, enhancing its appeal to both business and leisure travelers across the country.
