The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 122 youths who allegedly invaded the official residence of the Speaker of the state Home of Meeting, Martins Amaewhule, throughout a protest in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The command stated the protesters had been led by the State Chairman of the Nationwide Youths Council of Nigeria, . Chijioke Ihunwo.
The state Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, disclosed this in a press release issued on Wednesday.
Nwonyi’s assertion was signed by the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police.
He said that the youth, with the intent to commit felony, stormed the Speaker’s residence on the Forces Avenue, Previous GRA, Port Harcourt, and forcefully gained entrance by damaging the gate.
Nwonyi added that safety has been beefed up on the state Home of Meeting advanced alongside Moscow Highway, Port Harcourt, the Speaker’s residence, and different strategic areas and infrastructure within the state to forestall any breakdown of regulation and order.
