Alicia Carmody has quickly risen to Real Housewives super-stardom, emerging as one of the franchise’s most talked-about new faces thanks to her quirky personality, her unwavering love of crackers, and a wild story about the time she accidentally hit a woman with her car. While Carmody has been a mostly light-hearted presence in this oftentimes dramatic friend group, she finds herself in the midst of a feud with her longtime friend Liz McGraw in this week’s episode of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.

As revealed in the series premiere, McGraw has known Carmody since she was born. But when, during a recent cast trip, Carmody claimed that her father left her and her mother homeless in a trauma-bonding ice-breaker, McGraw called BS. It sent the tone for tonight’s episode, during which McGraw and some of the other people in their friend group questioned why Carmody would say she was homeless as a child when, in fact, she always had a house to live in.

So, what’s the truth? Was Carmody actually homeless? Keep reading for everything we know!

Was Alicia Carmody actually homeless?

This is a bit of a tricky question, and the answer really depends on who you ask. Was Carmody left without a family home? Yes. But was she sleeping in a homeless shelter or on the streets? No.

Per Carmody, her father walked out on their family when she was a child, selling their house and leaving her mother with nothing and nowhere to live. While they didn’t have a house of their own after he left, Carmody and her mom were able to move into her grandmother’s house. “I kind of feel like he took my home. That’s considered homeless. I had to go back with my grandparents in a fucking basement,” Carmody argued in tonight’s episode.

However, McGraw doubled down on her prior claim that Carmody was “never homeless,” maintaining that, despite the sale of her home, she always had a roof over her head. Jo-Ellen Tiberi’s husband, whose mother was best friends with Carmody’s mother, concurred with McGraw’s recollection. So, the answer to whether or not Carmody was homeless as a child really comes down to how one would define the word “homeless.”
