How PowerBall Works

As excitement builds ahead of the next PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws, thousands of South Africans are gearing up for their chance to win life-changing prizes.

Here’s everything you need to know about how the games work, how to play, and when to get your tickets.

The PowerBall jackpot draw requires players to choose:

  • Five numbers from 1 to 50, and
  • One PowerBall number from 1 to 20

Each board costs R5.00 to play.

PowerBall is known for producing the largest lottery wins in South Africa. The country’s record jackpot – an astonishing R232 131 750.69 – was won by a single ticket holder on 19 February 2019.

PowerBall Plus: A Second Chance to Win

PowerBall Plus gives players an additional opportunity to win using the same numbers played in the main PowerBall draw.

  • Entry costs an extra R2.50 per board
  • The odds remain the same
  • Prize amounts are typically lower

PowerBall Plus was introduced on 28 November 2015 to offer players more value and more chances to win.
