The Kano State Police Command has announced heightened security measures across the state ahead of the 2026 New Year celebrations, including intensified patrols and a total ban on fireworks and knockouts.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commissioner of Police, made this disclosure, Wednesday, after a follow-up meeting with operational commanders to review security arrangements for the festivities. The meeting followed what the police described as a successful security operation during the Christmas celebrations.

According to the command, the New Year security plan focuses on increased visibility policing, round-the-clock patrols, traffic control, and intelligence-led operations. Public places, recreational centres, and other areas expected to attract large crowds have been adequately fortified to prevent breaches of peace.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or movements to security agencies. The police also issued a series of safety advisories, warning against reckless driving, underage driving, unauthorized horse riding, and the carrying of suspicious objects.
In addition, the command announced a strict prohibition of fireworks and knockouts (bangers), stressing that violators would be dealt with according to the law.
Members of the public were encouraged to report emergencies or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
The command also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of residents and reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the New Year celebrations. The command also wished residents a peaceful and prosperous New Year 2026.
