Despite the best efforts from Malik Willis on the other side of the ball, the Green Bay Packers got gashed on the ground in a blowout loss to Derrick Henry the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night.
Willis, who started in place of Jordan Love, produced an elite performance at quarterback. In pro football, an elite performance at the position usually means a win. But the Packers run defense could only be described as an antonym of “elite,” and Matt LaFleur’s team was unable to survive the rampaging from Henry.
Based on grades from Pro Football Focus, here are the best and worst players from the Packers’ Week 17 loss to the Ravens:
Top 5 offense
- QB Malik Willis: 95.6
- WR Christian Watson: 90.7
- WR Romeo Doubs: 82.6
- RT Jordan Morgan: 79.7
- WR Jayden Reed: 62.9
Willis was sublime as a runner and passer before exiting with an injury in the fourth quarter. More on his elite performance below. Watson caught five passes for 113 yards and a score despite running only 19 routes; he averaged 5.95 yards per route run. Doubs caught all three of his targets for 62 yards, including a contested catch, and averaged 3.65 yards per route run. Morgan allowed only one hurry in pass protection and earned the team’s top run blocking grade (74.5). Reed caught all four targets for 41 yards, including a 30-yarder on third down.
Top 5 defense
- DE Lukas Van Ness: 80.6
- CB Nate Hobbs: 68.2
- LB Edgerrin Cooper: 67.3
- DE Kingsley Enagbare: 66.5
- CB Keisean Nixon: 65.2
Van Ness produced three pressures, including a QB hit, and a team-high five stops against the run. Hobbs broke up a pass and did not give up a completion before exiting after 10 snaps. Cooper missed two tackles and went 0-for-4 producing pressure as a blitzer, but he was effective in coverage. Enagbare had three pressures. Nixon struggled as a tackler but ended up allowing only 16 yards on four targets into his coverage, and he broke up a third down target into the end zone.
Bottom 5 offense
- LG Aaron Banks: 32.6
- RG Sean Rhyan: 36.7
- LT Rasheed Walker: 43.1
- RB Josh Jacobs: 47.7
- TE Luke Musgrave: 51.4
Banks allowed two pressures, committed two penalties and earned a 44.3 run blocking grade. Rhyan allowed two pressures, had a penalty and botched a snap resulting in a turnover. Walker gave up three pressures and had a 44.1 run blocking grade. Jacobs rushed four times for three yards and allowed a pressure on his only pass protection snap. Musgrave played 14 passing snaps but did not receive a target.
Bottom 5 defense
- LB Quay Walker: 33.3
- DL Quinton Bohanna: 37.3
- LB Isaiah McDuffie: 39.7
- CB Carrington Valentine: 51.4
- DL Warren Brinson: 52.3
Walker struggled against the run (42.6 grade) and in coverage (36.4) in a mostly disastrous individual performance. Bohanna struggled at nose tackle across 13 run defense snaps. McDuffie missed a tackle and gave up two completions in coverage. Valentine allowed a touchdown pass to Zay Flowers on third down, was a non-factor against the run and continues to struggle as a tackler. Brinson missed a tackle and earned a 47.4 run defense grade.
Special teams
Isaiah McDuffie, Nate Hobbs and Zayne Anderson made tackles covering kickoffs. The Packers did not punt, so Daniel Whelan was not needed. Brandon McManus made his only field goal attempt (his seventh make under 40 yards in the last three weeks) and all three extra points.
Quarterback play
Malik Willis: 95.6Clayton Tune: 38.0
Willis was marvelous on the live viewing and in PFF’s grading. His 95.6 grade was a career high. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown from clean pockets and 7 of 8 passes for 118 yards while under pressure. He finished with two big time throws and zero turnover worthy plays, and he took just one sack while scrambling five times. He completed 18 of 21 passes but PFF credited two of the incompletions to drops and another to a quarterback hit, giving him a 100 percent adjusted completion percentage. Willis was under pressure on 13 of his 27 dropbacks but earned an 85.7 grade under pressure. Tune struggled, completing 1 of 4 passes for 8 yards. His interception came on a dropped pass.
