A golden retriever’s birth has melted hearts across the internet after she refused to let her owner leave her side.

Elise Rose Jackson (@baby.the.goldador), 25, shared adorable footage of her golden Labrador x golden retriever, Baby, giving birth. The video has since garnered over 228,000 likes and more than 1.7 million views.

Jackson told Newsweek: “Once her labor began, she wanted me right by her side, I held my pee in for so long. She whined if I even moved my hand away to prep everything ready for the pups. Her first puppy was born at 6 p.m. and her last puppy was born at 10 p.m. She had eight altogether, five girls and three boys.”

Jackson described Baby, now 2 years old, as having the “most beautiful personality” and called her “my soul dog.”

Jackson said that Baby adores everyone she meets, including children, fellow canines, cats, and birds.

Baby was born at home as the first puppy from her litter, and Jackson’s 1-year-old daughter immediately dubbed the litter her “babies,” a name that stuck.

Jackson also praised Baby’s nurturing and protective instincts with her children, noting that she has helped prevent falls and even alerted her to a serious incident when her son was choking.

Baby’s pregnancy went smoothly, Jackson said, and she started showing only in the final weeks.

Baby became especially cuddly with Jackson and their other dog, Ducky, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. Jackson described the pair as inseparable best friends.

She added: “She was absolutely amazing and took to cleaning and feeding them straight away. Since they were born, I’ve spent every night in her whelping box with her, so she can rest and I can keep an eye on her and her babies.

“It melts my heart how much she’s trusted me and needed me there with her. She’s truly the best mama.”

The puppies’ father is Bertie, a golden retriever therapy dog. The planned breeding was confirmed via ultrasound at four weeks, and Jackson said she worked to make Baby as comfortable as possible in her new whelping box.

Jackson, a stay-at-home mom from South Wales, U.K., is studying at university. She added that all of Baby’s puppies will be temperament-scored using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test before leaving for their new homes.

Jackson said she plans to keep one puppy for herself. “It’s a privilege to be selected as a forever home for one of our puppies … I’ll always welcome back one of our pups at any stage of their life if their circumstances ever change. I’m so proud of the mama she’s become, and it’s been a magical experience.”

The puppies have been given a breakfast-themed naming scheme: the boys are Hash, Sausage and Bacon.

The girls are: Toast, Pancake, Eggs, Beans and Bagel. Jackson said that mom and puppies are all thriving and gaining weight beautifully.
