Osun NDLEA arrested 252 drug suspects in 2023 – Commander

The Nationwide Drug Regulation Enforcement Company, Osun State Command, says its males arrested 252 drug suspects between January and December 2023.

In an announcement on Saturday in Osogbo, the NDLEA Commander within the state, Mr Chidi Nnadi, stated  the suspects comprised 214 males and 38 females.

He stated  the command secured the conviction of 57 suspects, whose sentencing ranged from three months  to 5 years imprisonment.

In keeping with the commander, 47 circumstances are pending in courtroom.

He stated that the command seized illicit medicine weighing 1,909.69kg through the interval.

“Inside similar interval, the drug provide discount efforts led to the invention and destruction of 9.5 hectares of hashish farms (23.759 tonnes of hashish sativa) at Ifedayo and Oriade native authorities areas,” he stated.

“The company had a quick counselling intervention with 79 individuals who use medicine (PWUD) and launched into consciousness/sensitisation programmes in spiritual homes, faculties, motor parks, markets, and workplaces,” he stated.

He denied that Osun was the second-highest cannabis-producing state within the South West.

The commander thanked the company’s Chairman, Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), and the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, for his or her efforts to rid the state and the  nation of substance abuse.
