Ogun gov’s townspeople conflict with neighbours, two killed

There was disquiet within the hometown of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Iperu-Remoland, following the demise of two individuals over boundary dispute.

The lingering boundary dispute was between Ogere, a neighbouring neighborhood, and Abiodun’s hometown in Ikenne Native Authorities Space.

Our correspondent gathered that the violence broke out on Thursday when youths from Iperu and Ogere cities engaged themselves in a battle.

In an interview with our correspondent, an eyewitness recognized the victims as Owolabi and Obinna. He mentioned the victims had been from Ogere and had been allegedly killed between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning when Iperu youths reportedly stormed Ogere Toll Gate market and killed them.

Based on sources, the reason for the violence was some Iperu indigenes claiming possession of some elements of Ogere Toll Gate market. It was learnt that the disputed land was being occupied by northerners promoting herds of cattle, pepper, yam and different farm produce.

The indignant youths had been reported to have insisted that being the house owners of the disputed land, they need to be those amassing the income from merchants available in the market.

The supply, who’s a resident of Ogere, mentioned, “The youths amassing the income for the federal government from this market are primarily from Ogere however Iperu youths had for a very long time been agitating to take over the job as a result of that a part of the market is Iperuland. The matter didn’t begin yesterday; it has been a lingering boundary dispute.

“It’s nevertheless unhappy that issues received uncontrolled on Wednesday evening once we heard that youths from Iperu mobilised, stormed the market and shot two individuals to demise. One indigene popularly referred to as Obinna died on the spot whereas the opposite one referred to as Owolabi later died in a hospital.”

It was learnt that the intervention of the safety brokers had helped to revive calm. A number of calls made to the Police Public Relations within the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, didn’t join whereas a message despatched to his cell phone had but to be replied to as of press time.
