The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced an urgent recall of 1665 Nissan Qashqai SUVs sold across South Africa.

The vehicle model was produced and distributed between 4 May 2021 and 17 October 2024.

The commission, in a recent statement, says the vehicle may have a serious fuel system issue that poses a potential fire hazard.

NISSAN REPORTS FUEL PIPE ISSUES

According to Nissan South Africa, the fuel pipe may shift within its retaining clip during normal engine operation.

Over time, this movement could cause wear and even puncture the pipe, leading to fuel leaks.

The automotive company stated the fault is rare but dangerous and could cause serious consequences if drivers ignore it.

OWNERS URGED TO ACT FAST

The National Consumer Commission’s Acting Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu, emphasised the importance of swift consumer action.

“The success of the recalls depends on the immediate response by owners,” he said.

The commission is urging vehicle owners to contact or visit their nearest authorised Nissan dealership for free inspection and repairs.

The NCC stressed that all costs will be covered by Nissan, including any necessary replacements or adjustments to prevent leaks.

Additionally, drivers can check their vehicle’s status by contacting Nissan’s customer service line or visiting the official website.

NISSAN PROMISES SWIFT RESOLUTION

Nissan South Africa has assured customers that safety remains its top priority.

It has also assured drivers that dealerships nationwide are ready to conduct inspections and repairs.

The automaker also confirmed that only the Qashqai model is affected by this particular recall.

So, quick action could prevent accidents, protect lives, and keep South Africa’s roads safer.
