Abuja, Jan. 22, 2023 (NAN) NDLEA has thwarted efforts to carry 126.95kg of cocaine and skunk into Nigeria by drug cartels.
Director, Media and Advocacy on the NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said on Sunday in Abuja that the medicine had been hid in natural tea packs and in autos imported from Brazil and Canada.
He stated that the consignments had been intercepted on the Akanu Ibiam Worldwide Airport, Enugu and on the Tincan Port in Lagos.
He said that an Ethiopian Airline passenger, Eze Ikenna (42), coming back from Brazil by Addis Ababa, was intercepted on the Enugu airport on Jan. 20.
“A search of his two luggage revealed 19 large sachets which he claimed to include natural tea, however had been later discovered to be cocaine weighing 16.2kg,’’ Babafemi said.
He added that NDLEA operatives hooked up to Tincan Port, Lagos, additionally intercepted a container marked TCLU 7799237 from Montreal, Canada at Sifax Okota Bonded Terminal.
Babafemi stated that the container which was seized on Jan. 18 had 110.75kg of hemp in it.
He stated that it was hid in two of the 4 autos within the container: a 2011 Toyota Sienna and a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV.
Babafemi quoted NDLEA Chairman, retired, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa as commending officers concerned within the operations and charging them to stay centered on profitable the conflict towards substance abuse and drug trafficking. (NAN)
