Namibia: Copper Theft At Walvis Bay Causes ‘Large Harm’

The police at Walvis Bay are asking the general public’s assist in tracing the culprits of copper theft on the city.

Some 1,2 tonnes of copper wire had been stolen from overhead strains on the city on Wednesday.

The wire, valued at N$300 000, had been stolen at round 23h50 close to the C-14 highway outdoors Walvis Bay.

Erongo police spokesperson warrant officer Tuyenikelao Tashiya says the suspect/s allegedly used a jaw noticed to chop 9 Erongo Regional Electrical energy Distributor powerline poles.

“They brought about enormous injury to {the electrical} infrastructure and a blackout in components of Walvis Bay, together with restricted entry to communication means, akin to web and radio station frequencies,” he says.

Members of the general public with info on the suspects and their whereabouts are requested to urgently contact deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu at 081 246 4757, detective chief inspector Elias Orub at 081 260 5984, or thier nearest police station.

Police investigations proceed.
