Julian Nagelsmann conceded that Germany took “a long time to get into our rhythm” during their victory over Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying.

The four-time world champions recorded their fourth successive win in Group A, thanks to a second-half brace from Nick Woltemade at Stade de Luxembourg.

Germany survived a couple of scares during the first half, with Danel Sinani and Aiman Darderi both narrowly off target for the hosts.

Nagelsmann’s side eventually broke the deadlock in the 49th minute through Nagelsmann, who added a second 20 minutes later to put the contest to bed.

“The three points are the most important thing today,” the Germany boss said.

“In the end, football is a results sport. But in the first half, we didn’t get off to a good start. It took us a long time to get into our rhythm. Luxembourg had chances, and actually should’ve taken the lead.

“In the second half, we were much better, had more control, scored two goals and deservedly won the game. We take the three points.”

Woltemade now has three goals in his last two games for Germany, after also netting the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over Northern Ireland last time out.

The striker concurred that the visitors grew stronger as the contest wore on, saying: “The performance in the first half was not good. There was a lot of back and forth, and we conceded many dangerous situations.

“The second half was better, we were more precise and got the goals we needed. At this point, the most important thing is the three points.

“We knew Luxembourg can play football. Everyone admitted at half-time that the first half was not good. We were then significantly better, with more control and more chances.

“Getting a brace here is very nice, but as long as we get the win, it doesn’t matter who scores.”
