Deputy Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 Kogi election, Chief Sam Ranti Abenemi, has resigned from the party.

Addressing a press conference in Lokoja on Friday, Abenemi announced his decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abenemi, who ran on same ticket with Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka in the 2023 governorship election, submitted his resignation on November 13, 2025, citing “deep and personal reflection” on his political journey.

He emphasized that his exit was amicable and expressed gratitude to the SDP for the opportunity to serve, including during the 2023 governorship election.

After leaving the SDP, Abenemi confirmed his defection to the APC, attributing the move to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and the leadership of Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. He stated his intention to collaborate with all party levels to promote governance and economic progress, without aligning with any specific faction.

The formal reception is scheduled for Monday at Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, where they will be received by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
