Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has promised to perform at his best over the final seven games of the Premier League season to help Nottingham Forest avoid the drop, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nottingham Forest currently find themselves in a precarious position, sitting 16th in the table and just three points above the relegation zone.

While two of the relegation spots appear likely to be filled by Burnley and Wolves, the third remains a major concern. Only four points separate the teams from 16th to 18th—including Leeds United, Forest, and West Ham—leaving several clubs at risk of dropping.

This is familiar territory for the Tricky Trees. Two seasons ago, they faced a similar crisis, and it was Awoniyi who spearheaded their survival with a brilliant goalscoring run in the final weeks of the campaign.

This season, however, the Nigerian international has played a more peripheral role due to recurring injuries and tactical changes. With him on the bench, Brazilian striker Igor Jesus has led the line for Forest. Despite his reduced minutes, Awoniyi remains eager to contribute to the club’s cause.

Taiwo Awoniyi Makes Promise To Nottingham Forest

For Awoniyi, the threat of relegation carries weight beyond the pitch. He is also aware of the other costs of dropping to the Championship, especially regarding the potential for some club staff to lose their jobs.

”I think these last seven games will be vital for the club. It’s not just about me; it’s about the entire squad—everyone understands our position and what is required of us,” Awoniyi stated.

”A relegation battle is something you never want to experience. When you consider the business side of the game, many people could lose their jobs, and the fans will be devastated. My only focus is doing whatever I can to make people happy; I will give my absolute best.”

Nottingham Forest faces a daunting and even scary run-in, with fixtures against Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Bournemouth still to come.

To secure their top-flight status, Awoniyi and his teammates will need to produce some of their best performances of the season. Awoniyi has a bit of momentum on his side, as he scored in Nottingham Forest’s last game against Tottenham. He will be looking to put on a run in the last few games of the campaign.
