KZN climate: Heavy rains, flooding and thunderstorms anticipated on Sunday

The South African Climate Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow stage 2 warning for extreme thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours and damaging wind in KZN.

The warning is legitimate on Sunday, 30 March.

LATEST KZN WEATHER WARNING

The climate service stated scattered showers and thundershowers are anticipated over most components of KZN however remoted over the north-eastern components on Sunday with a chance of extreme thunderstorms accompanied by damaging winds, extreme lightning, hail and heavy downpours resulting in localised impacts.

“Damaging winds with extreme lightning, hail, and heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding are anticipated over most components of KZN besides the north-eastern components and the intense north-western components on Sunday,” SAWS stated.

HERE ARE THE AFFECTED AREAS

The South African Climate Service has urged residents within the following areas have been urged to take warning or keep away from travelling on bridges and roads in low mendacity areas as these could also be prone to flooding and there could also be sinkholes.

Moreover, the climate service urged residents to keep away from outside actions as lightning, hail and flooding might end in accidents or demise.

POSSIBLE IMPACTS

The anticipated inclement climate in KZN will end in:

  • Localised harm to infrastructure, settlements, autos, livelihood and livestock
  • Localised flooding of prone roads
  • Localised accidents and hazard to life as a consequence of lightning
  • Energy surges as a consequence of extreme lightning

WARNING ISSUED FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN PARTS OF MPUMALANGA

KZN will not be the one province that can expertise inclement climate this weekend. The SAWS has additionally forecast extreme thunderstorms in Mpumalanga.

The climate service stated extreme thunderstorms leading to damaging winds, extreme lightning, hail, and heavy downpours resulting in localised flooding are anticipated over the escarpment and Lowveld of Mpumalanga on Sunday, 30 March.
