The South African Climate African Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow degree 4 warning for extreme thunderstorms in KwaZulu-Natal.
The warning is for Sunday, 10 November.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND RAIN EXPECTED IN KWAZULU-NATAL
The climate service stated widespread showers and thundershowers are anticipated over most elements of KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.
The thunderstorms are anticipated to be extreme over most elements of the province and could also be accompanied by sturdy damaging winds, extreme lightning, giant hail/giant quantities of small and heavy downpours.
“Fashions are indicating important quantities of rain in extra of 40mm in locations on Sunday that may end in flooding. Important impacts could also be anticipated contemplating the impacts anticipated with Saturday storms,” the climate service stated.
POSSIBLE IMPACTS:
- Flooding of roads, settlements, and low-lying areas, leading to closure of some bridges and roads

- Injury to constructions resulting from hail and wind
- Main visitors disruption
- Displacement of affected communities
LIGHTNING KILLS ONE, INJURES THREE
In the meantime, on Tuesday, 5 November, KwaZulu-Natal division of cooperative governance and conventional affairs (Cogta) has confirmed that one particular person died whereas three others had been injured following extreme thunderstorms within the province.
The division stated the incident occurred at 14:00 on Monday in Townview, Ward 5. The climate service had issued a yellow degree 4 warning for extreme thunderstorms and disruptive rain.
“It’s believed that the victims had been of their residence when the lightning struck, leading to one fatality, Sifiso James Mkhize, aged 37. The injured embrace an toddler and two adults, who’re receiving therapy at a hospital.
